MARGHERITA: Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today promised a new degree college at Jagun in Margherita constituency and introduction of Science stream in Margherita College in Tinsukia district within three months of forming the next government in Assam.
Addressing a massive rally here as part of the BJP's formal launch of Assam assembly election campaign, the BJP leader also promised to upgrade the Margherita subdivisional hospital to a 200-bedded hospital and a state-of-the-art stadium at the Dehing-Patkai Sports Complex here.
Promising permanent land documents to all in Margherita constituency, he also promised a satellite development council for Assam inhabitants at Tirap in Arunachal Pradesh.

Further, Sarma promised to revive the North Eastern Coalfields in Margherita.
Apart from the promises to develop Margherita, the powerful minister also promised 1 lakh government jobs to educated youths within a year of forming the next government and to generate 10 lakh job avenues for the state’s youth in five years.
Claiming that the Congress could not deliver even 10 per cent in 15 years of what the BJP-AGP government had delivered over the past five years, he reiterated that Congress is not more than a demonetised Rs 500 currency note.

“The Congress is worth nothing anymore. Our only objective is now to banish Rahul Gandhi to Italy with all our love and affection,” he said.
Sarma was campaigning for sitting MLA Bhaskar Sarma in presence of Union home minister Amit Shah and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
