GUWAHATI: The Assam Police’s CID today questioned Hindutva activist Satya Ranjan Bora in connection with investigation into a viral “doctored” video of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal where Ajmal is seen speaking about converting India into an Islamic country.
Bora, who was summoned by the CID today, presented himself around 11. 45 am and was inside the CID headquarters at the time of filing this report. Sources said, Bora stands a chance of being arrested.
He was summoned under case No. 03/2021 under Sec 153 (A)/295 (A)/505 (2) of IPC.

According to Bora, he was summoned after Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), the web page where the video was supposedly surfaced first, has claimed to have received the video from Bora.
“I am summoned today by the CID in connection with the recent viral video on Ajmal. I have learnt that I am summoned because the LRO, which is being probed, has taken my name at some point of time during the investigation. I’ll come to know the details only after interacting with the officers,” Bora told media before entering the CID headquarters here.
“But, one thing is clear, if such fake videos keep going viral every time, people will not trust even the genuine ones in the future. It’s a fact that even I shared the video link and so did thousands of people … That is why, I questioned the motive behind such videos after we came to know that the video was fake.

“Interestingly, I am being summoned to question on something I am not even really aware of. What I feel now is that I am being summoned because I asked if there was any link between Himanta Biswa Sarma and the fake videos because those videos were also shared on his social media handles,” the saffron clad Right wing activist added.
In the allegedly doctored video Ajmal is seen saying that the Mughals had ruled India for 800 years and the country would be converted into an Islamic nation.
Bora had recently called a press conference to state that he suspected some connection between state cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and repeated doctored viral videos on Ajmal because those videos were shared on the minister’s social media handles.

He also mentioned about a similar doctored video where supporters are heard chanting Pakistan Zindabad slogans on Ajmal’s arrival at the airport in Silchar.
