GUWAHATI: Noted intellectual Hiren Gohain today called for alliance of all regional parties to dethrone the BJP and its allies at Dispur in the state Assembly elections due in April.
"Every regional party has to be united. It would otherwise not be easy to defeat a party like the BJP," Gohain said at a political convention organised by Anchalik Gana Morcha here today.
Rajya Sabha member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan also echoed Gohain saying: "If we stand divided, we can never defeat a force like the BJP. We have to stand united."

Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) have, however, categorically stated that the two would not ally with any national party, including the Congress, or any communal party.
"We count AIUDF as a communal party just as we do in case of the BJP. Raijor Dal is not going to forge an alliance with any of them," said Raijor Dal leader Kamal Medhi.
Reacting Gohain's call, senior BJP leader and Assam cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: "People of Assam do not want our lands in Kaziranga (National Park) to be encroached by the people of Ajmal. In April, everyone will prove whether Hiren Gohain and Ajit Bhuyan are right or us."
