Making an emotional appeal to the masses via social media, Assam's popular singer Manas Robin on February 4 posted a video in which he appealed the Government to immediately arrange for the treatment of incarcerated peasant leader Akhil Gogoi. If they fail to do that, Robin said, "history will never forgive."
Robin says that from non-political platforms, some have gone to join parties, and defection to other parties has also become a norm. "However, shoving a person to the verge of death for taking part in a political struggle is something that Assam cannot forgive", he said.

Robin also reminded the masses that Akhil had once asked the people not to vote for the Congress and vote for the BJP. Robin added that this kind of activity will go on forever. However, no one should pay for it with their lives, Robin said, adding that no Assamese with a conscience will accept it and history will always remember the Government for its callousness. "No person from Assam from a long time will be AGP, BJP, or Congress", Robin added.
Robin's appeal has, meanwhile, gone viral, with over 11,000 views and 530 'shares'.
Meanwhile, the clamour for Gogoi’s release has grown into a deafening roar, especially in light of the leader’s progressively deteriorating health. Recently, it has been reported that the peasant leader is unable to get up to greet his visitors in jail. Gogoi’s comrades, including his deputy and right-hand man Dhairjya Konwar, have now demanded the Government’s intervention in ensuring that Gogoi is accorded first class medical facilities in a reputed institute.
