Suspected Hizbul Mujahideen operative Omar Farooq, who was arrested from Byrnihat in Meghalaya on Saturday, will be taken to Hojai for further interrogation on Sunday.
Farooq, who hails from Soalbarin in Hojai, was suspected to be maintaining close a rapport with arrested Hizbul operative Qamar-uz-Zaman.
Police said the Hizbul Mujahideen had transferred money from Kashmir to Farooq’s account for the purpose of strengthening the terrorist group’s network in Assam.
So far, the police arrested three people for their close links with Zaman who was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police from Kanpur recently.
UP Director General of Police, OP Singh, said Zaman was planning an attack on Ganesh Chaturthi and based on specific inputs, he was arrested from Kanpur's Chakeri.
He said the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) was tracking him for the past few days leading to his arrest. The terrorist came under the police radar after he had posted a photo of him with an AK-47 rifle on social media. The police further added that he was trained in Pakistan last year.
