Hooch Tragedy: CM Sonowal announces Rs 2 lakh to the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those undergoing treatment

Guwahati, February 23, 2019:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the hooch tragedy and Rs 50,000 each to those undergoing treatment in Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) and Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh.

The announcement was made during the launch of Mukhyamantrir Akashdeep Yojana, Mukhyamantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yojana and distribution land pattas to beneficiaries at Titabor, Jorhat.

The CM said, “It is very unfortunate that such an incident took place in the state. I have ordered an investigation into the matter that happened Thursday night and directed Upper Assam Division Commissioner, Julie Sonowal to do a proper investigation.”

Four-member inquiry team headed by Additional Commissioner of the Excise Department, Sanjib Medhi will submit a report within three days on the tragic incident that led to the death of more than 102 people.
