Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has visited Jorhat Medical College where the many patients have been admitted who had consumed the spurious liquor.
Addressing the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “When I reached Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) at 10 pm yesterday, 133 people were admitted out of which 107 were male and rest were female and more patients were coming in. By then the death toll was 32 in Golaghat and five were critical. We have asked doctors from Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital, Tezpur Medical College and Hospital to cooperate in the treatment of the patients along with JMCH doctors. Full facilities will be provided to them and we have requested the hospital authorities to admit the only patient who needs immediate medical support.”
“We have discussed with the doctors and they said the increasing number patients are also a psychological factor as many have now realized that they have drunk from that stall and now they are going through neuron triggers that made them feel sick,” he added.
Sarma also mentioned that “The government is working on the matter and investigation will be initiated. Also if anyone related to this case, even any official involved in carrying out such illegal activities will be punished.”
