HS Shylla of NPP who is a noted politician has resigned from the primary membership of the party citing the alleged lukewarm attitude of the NPP-led Meghalaya government to the Khasi Social Customs of Lineage Bill, passed by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHDAC).
Speaking on a public meeting, the KHDAC chief made the announcement catching all by surprise. He said he found it insulting to be a part of a party which is in power and yet unmoved to endorse the bills passed by the KHDAC and thus decided to quit.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District(Inner line as adapted from the Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873) Regulation Bill 2018, Khasi social Customs of Lineage Bill,2018 and Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Khasi Social Custom of Clan Administration), 2018 were passed by the district council last year. The three bills are currently with the District Council Affairs department of the state government.
Speaking to the media Shylla said, it’s so insulting to stay in a party that does not appreciate their very own MDCs from the party.
He even lamented that the party pays very little attention about the issues of the indigenous people.
