MORIGAON: A husband-wife duo hailing from Middle Assam's Marigaon district has landed behind bars for allegedly running a 'human trafficking racket.'
Hiteshwar Konwar and his wife Mala Konwar, both residents of the Lelai Bori village under the Laharighat Police Station, have been accused of running a human trafficking racket.

The duo had reportedly lured two girls hailing from Hugoltoli village in Morigaon by promising to get them married in Rajasthan. However, some villagers got suspicious when they saw the girls roaming around with the duo and alerted the police.
Reportedly, the duo was asking for a charge of Rs. 10,000 to deliver the girls to potential buyers.
The husband-wife duo has been arrested under Sections of the 366/370(A)(1)/370(A)(2)/34 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and both have been sent to jail custody.
