GUWAHATI: Unlike other BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders who are stated to be “managed” not to contest as independents after being denied tickets for the Assam assembly elections 2021, BJP’s Dispur aspirant Jayanta Das today said he can be managed only with the party ticket this time.

Expressing shock and dismay over the ticket denial for the second straight time, Das told InsideNE: “Like others, I am also ready to be managed. But, I can be ‘managed’ only if I am given the party ticket.”

He was apparently referring to Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, AGP MLAs Brindaban Goswami and Satyabrat Kalita and few others who threatened to contest as independents and later on decided to stay back with the parties following interventions of party leaderships.

The disappointed BJP leader said he would take a decision regarding contesting the polls as an independent by tomorrow.

“I have worked for the party for over 30 years and I have always been deprived of an opportunity. I am denied a ticket every time for the sake of a candidate who can win elections only when it is on a wave. The voters of Dispur constituency vote for BJP because of me. The only time I was given a ticket was in 2006 at Jalukbari against Himanta Biswa Sarma knowing very well that nobody would contest against him at that time,” Das said.

“I’m more pained because, after denying me ticket, none of the leaders even made a courtesy call since yesterday. If this kind of treatment is meted out to sincere party workers, it will discourage others to work for the party,” he added.

Taking a dig at the choice of sitting MLA Atul Bora as candidate from Dispur, Das said: “He is probably the most failing MLA. It’s a shame that people have to stage demonstrations against a ruling party MLA for failing to develop the constituency, poor roads, lack of water supply facility. Precisely speaking, I personally can’t stand that arrogant man who has never won an election of his own.”

His allegations holds ground if one passes through the stretches of roads in the Bonda area or even the Chaolung Siu-ka-Pha Path in Hatigaon right behind the capital complex.
