Three-time former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi on Monday launched into a tirade against the Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi while addressing the press here on Monday.
The former CM predicted that many of the newly-elected BJP MPs like Queen Oja will be nimati koinas (docile brides) in Parliament while he himself spoke about the issues plaguing the State.
Moreover, the former CM cast doubts over the Prime Minister's newly-declared allegiance to the Constitution and questioned how he can stay true to the Constitution and enact the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at the same time.
Gogoi also critiqued the Prime Minister-elect for the BJP party alleged anti-Mahatma Ganhi stance as some leaders, including Bhopal's newly elected MP Pragya Thakur, have claimed that Nathuram Godse was a "patriot" for assassinating the Mahatma. "He offered garlands to others on the dice but not to MK Gandhi", Gogoi alleged.
"What do we want.. Nehru's scientific country or Modi's superstitious country?", queried Gogoi.
Gogoi has also alleged that the BJP party's "divisive propaganda" has helped them win the elections, while issues like price rise, black money, and immigration were the ones which helped the party secure its win in 2014.
"He took the platform on nationalism which in Modi's rule is known as Hindutwavadi. Amit Shah and all speak of India being a Hindu county. They are creating a sense of threat among the people on the basis of religion", Tarun Gogoi lamented.
It may be mentioned that the BJP party won a historic mandate in the 2019 elections as the party was able to win 303 seats by itself, and 352 along with its NDA allies. In Assam, the BJP won nine seats, while the Congress party was able to secure victory in Barpeta, Nowgong, and Koliabar constituencies. The AIUDF won in Dhubri, while independent candidate Naba Kr. Sarania won from Kokrajhar.
