Majuli, June 17, 2019:

Bipin Dhane, an IIT-Kharagpur graduate in Naval Architecture, is making waves due to his generosity.

After passing out, he found a high-paying job at a multinational company in Singapore, but this IIT graduate from Satara, Maharashtra had other plans in life

He says that had never wanted the corporate life. He says that he had thought about quitting for more and year and a half. He says that one day on social media, he connected with a friend who was working in the remote river island of Majuli on the Brahmaputra River in Assam as a teacher for underprivileged children.

He aspired to work in the education sector, and she told him there were opportunities to teach there. He finally mustered the courage to quit in October 2015 and made his way to Majuli.

Initially, his family was not happy with his decision. They already knew of his desire to quit, but they were unhappy, particularly his father.

Fast forward nearly four years, and today Bipin runs 'The Hummingbird School', a co-educational institution, for the underprivileged children from the indigenous Mising tribal community in Kulamu village, Majuli.

The school has 240 students coming from 11 villages, of which 70 live in a hostel, and conducts classes up to Grade 5.

Today, his father is proud of his efforts.

While working with the students, Bipin and his team of six colleagues felt the need to further extend their work with the community, so in November 2017, they founded the Ayang Trust, which in the Mising language, means love and compassion.

Besides the school, Ayang is currently working to transform five other government schools and running a community library which is serving children from five nearby villages.

The trust is also working with local weavers of Majuli.

Bipin is one of the people who makes Assam truly "awesome" by undertaking great sacrifice for the betterment of humankind.
