MARGHERITA: Assam Police have busted an illegal Aadhaar card centre in the Tinsukia district of Assam on Tuesday and arrested at least four persons in connection to the racket.
In the name of providing Aadhaar Cards, the centre was charging some Rs 400 each from the applicants, whereas the enrolment is free of cost from the registered centres.
Assam Civil Service (ACS) Siddhartha Sonowal, Executive Magistrate, Margherita, along with the assistance from the officer in charge (OC) of Pengeree Police station, Srikumar Neog raided the Common Service Centre (CSC) on Tuesday.

The accused committed the crime of issuing forged Aadhaar cards to citizens, particularly marginalised tea workers.
One Iris scanner, Finger Print Scanner, Laptop, Printer, and one keyboard were seized by the police from the illegal centre.
The entire situation is being extensively monitored by Sarfaraz, ACS, ADC, Aadhar Tinsukia, and Parishmita Dehingia, ACS, Nodal Officer Aadhar, Tinsukia.
An FIR has been lodged in the respected Police Station and further investigations are underway.
It is to be noted that, a similar racket was busted by the civil administration in the Powai area a few weeks ago.
