GUWAHATI: India's Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that ahead of Bohag Bihu, there will be heavy rainfall with thundersquall in the state of Assam as well in a few other northeastern states.
"Thundersquall activity very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 08th & 09th April," the IMD said in its forecast.
It further read, "Isolated heavy rainfall also very likely over south Assam & Meghalaya on 08th and Arunachal Pradesh on 09th & 10th April."

The report also pointed out that, in isolated places over Assam, squall speed will reach 50-60 kmph, which may cause damage to plantation, horticulture, and standing crops, as well as partial damage to vulnerable structures, minor damage to kutcha houses, walls, and huts.
The IMD also urged people to "stay indoors" and "avoid travel if possible" in view of the weather.
