First of all, congratulations. So, tell me about your preparations for the APSC examinations 2018?

Nothing is impossible if you do it with perseverance and grit. 2018 was my first attempt. I started my preparations in 2017. I saw the syllabus and went through the previous years' papers and tried to understand the pattern. I tried to understand the different subjects -- for the prelims.

What is the difference between studying for the prelims and the mains?

For prelims, you have to study current affairs -- about the laws and Constitution. I started off with the NCERT books. I enjoyed reading from the old course books. I started off with the NCERT of Classes 10 and 12. I purchased the entire set because I prefer reading from the hard copies.

How many hours did you put in each day? That is something that every aspirant wonders about.

Initially, I started with 4 hours. Then, I gradually studied for 6 hours, and then 8 hours. I developed my interest by starting with lesser. Once I developed the interest, I made it a point to study for 8 hours. On some days, I would study for 6 hours, but my target was 8 hours.

What tips would you give to APSC aspirants? Is there any secret success mantra?

I did not practice writing answers much. However, practice is a must if you want to clear the exams. Writing 2-3 answers each day would keep one in good stead to crack the exam. The best way to manage time is to practice writing answers so that you do not have trouble finishing them on time.

You belong to a political background. What encouraged you to go down this career path?

My family has always been involved in the service of the people, which gave them satisfaction. Growing around such values, I imbibed it in me and it inspired me to work for the people. However, I was never interested in being directly involved with politics.
