BAJALI: Ahead of the ensuing elections in Assam, the inauguration ceremony of the new district of Assam, Bajali, was held today.

It is pertinent to mention here that the proposal to make Bajali a district was approved by the Assam government on August 10, 2020.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal, expressing his happiness, wrote on Twitter, “Today is a great day for the people of Bajali subdivision as formal notification declaring it as a district has been issued. I congratulate the people on this occasion. I believe this will pave way for faster development of the educational and cultural hub of Assam.”
It is pertinent to mention that Assam had a total of 27 districts before 2015.
The then Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi formed five more districts for a total of 32 districts, while two more districts were established in 2016. However, these districts are still non-functional due to administrative infrastructure problems.
