Indian Army Jawans Rescue 160 People Stranded due to Floods in Nalbari

Nalbari, July 16, 2019:

The relentless rains over the fortnight tipped the brim and wrecked havoc across several villages in Nalbari district of Assam.

Torrential downpour amounted to breach of embankments of Pagladiya River in Nalbari, flooding 133 villages and affecting 1,50,000 population.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army along with the Nalbari district administration, the NDRF and SDRF are carrying out rescue operations to rescue the people stranded in the floods.

A highly trained and well-equipped flood relief column of the Red Horns Division mobilized swiftly and arrived at the Na-Mati Village in Nalbari District to undertake a massive humanitarian aid and disaster relief operation and save lives.

Operating under a heavy downpour, dangerous currents and alarming water levels in addition to the pitch dark night, Indian Army toiled hard and rescued 160 civilians, including 73 women and children, and brought them to safety. The locals and civil administration were forthcoming in expressing their heartfelt and overwhelming gratitude to the Army as the dedicated efforts resulted in averting disaster and resulted in normalization of the situation.

The yeomen and selfless service of the Indian Army once again demonstrated commitment towards the nation-building and inclusive social well being and instilled a sense of integration, trust, and belongingness amongst the local populace which is in consonance with the Army's broader objective.
