Indo-Japan Summit Likely to be Shifted from Guwahati to Bhubaneshwar

Guwahati, December 11, 2019:

The Indo-Japan summit, that was scheduled to be held in Guwahati from December 15 to December 17, has been shifted to Bhubaneswar amid the turmoil in the state over the introduction of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The first Indo-Japan summit to be held in the Northeast was expected to give a major push to the India-Japan Act East Forum, as Japan had plans to invest around Rs 13,000 cr in projects in the eight states of the region.

It is to be mentioned here that massive uprisings have been witnessed across the state, amid the Central Government's resolve to implement the contentious Bill.

Meanwhile, state government has suspended mobile internet services in several districts of the State for 24 hours. The suspension shall come into effect at 7 pm today.

On the other hand, curfew has been imposed in the entire city in view of the violence growing constantly.

This order has come at a time when the entire state is burning in protests over the controversial legislation. Chaos has reigned supreme in Assam capital Dispur, as protesters clashed with security personnel outside the Assam Assembly. Vandalism was also reported from various other districts and angry protesters numbering in the thousands took to the streets demanding the scrapping of the Bill.
