'Instead of Paying Respect after Martyrdom, Government Should Respect Us While We are Alive', Says Army Jawan Excluded from NRCThe three Army brothers

Barpeta, September 1, 2019:

Three Army jawans, as well as their families, have been excluded from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC), which was published on Saturday.

Shahidul Islam, Delbar Hussain, and Mijanur Ali are three brothers who are serving the Indian armed forces. While Shahidul's name has been included in the NRC, the two other jawan brother, Delbar and Mijanur, were shocked to see their names missing.

This is all the more surprising as their father Abdul Hamid, and mother Khadeja Begum, are mentioned in the 1970 electoral rolls. However, they too have been excluded from the NRC rolls.

Their names had been included in the first draft, but after undergoing the claims procedure, their names were dropped from the list.

As per reports, Sahidul is a subedar posted at Binnaguri in Jaipaiguri, Delbar is a sepoy of the Indian Army posted in Lucknow, and Mizanur is a CISF constable working in Chennai.

While speaking to the media, Sahidul said, "All three of us brothers work for the Indian army. It is rather unfortunate that my brothers have not been included in the list, despite serving in the army. Only my name is included, but my three brothers have been excluded. We are prepared to lay down our lives for the nation, thus, this is a real shock for us."

The second jawan brother, Mizanur, said, "I joined the army in 2012, but six members of our family, including my father, whose name was included in the 1951 NRC, have been excluded from the NRC. I urge upon the NRC officials to include our names in the NRC."

"I joined the Army in 2010, been in Lucknow ever since. We were declared as Indians in the FT, but still, our names have not been included in the NRC. When we are martyred, the ministers pay us their respects, but we are being neglected while we are alive. We have all the necessary documents..", lamented Delbar, the third fauji brother.

It may be mentioned here that another army jawan, Kargil war veteran Sanaullah, finds himself excluded from the final NRC draft.

It may be mentioned here that a total of 3,30,27,661 people had applied to be included in the NRC. Of them, 3,11,21,004 have been made it to the list, while 19,06,657 names have been excluded, and their future remains uncertain.

Those excluded from the NRC now have 120 days to file appeals at the Foreigners' Tribunals, where their fates will be decided.
