Authorities of Bokajan in Karbi Anglong have successfully nabbed an elephant ivory smuggler on Monday.
The smuggler, who has been identified as a certain Barnis Indu, was nabbed after an operation was launched in Joporajan under the Bokajan Police Station. The operation was carried out based on secret intel.

Indu was caught along with two elephant tusks 2.2-foot long, weighing around 10 kilos, and admitted that he intended to sell them in the black market.
Further investigation is going on in this regard.

It is to be mentioned here that the demand for ivory across Southeast Asia has led to a rise in smuggling in Assam.
Earlier it was reported that Khatkhati Police had seized 1-foot long elephant tusk which was brought for sale into Assam for an amount of Rs 2,25,000.

In July, ivory worth $12.9 million was seized in Singapore. It has been suspected that the smuggled ivory was heading to Vietnam through Singapore from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
