GUWAHATI: Former Congress spokesperson Jamsher Ali joined the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) amid fanfare, giving yet boost to the NDA to retain its stronghold in Assam.
Ali joined the party during a massive rally in Chirang held by the party in support of Sidli candidate Jayanta Basumatary. Promod Boro, UPPL president and the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the BTC inducted him into the party.
Promod Boro, talking to media persons on the sidelines of the event, exuded confidence that the NDA alliance would perform very strongly in the first phase of the polls.

"Whereas the AIUDF-Congress-BPF combine will fail to win any of the seats, our alliance candidates will perform strongly and win all the seats"
At 7 am in the morning, electors from 47 Constituencies across Assam headed out to the voting booths to cast their ballots.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 protocol was followed strictly in most of the polling stations where social distancing was enforced and gloves were issued to voters to cast their votes. COVID-19 protocols were thrown to the wind during the political campaigns though.
Assembly elections for 126 seats in Assam will be held in three phases starting from March 27 and the counting of votes will take place on May 2.
