A specially constituted team of Jorhat Police led by SP Prasanta Kr Bhuyan foiled a sinister robbery plan to loot a prominent businessman of the Banderdewa area bordering Assam and Arunachal and nabbed 4 most wanted robbers and recovered a huge arsenal of arms and ammunitions that included a AK-56 Rifle, one 9 MM pistol, .32 pistol and a Chinese hand grenade besides 7 mobile phones on Monday. The recovery has created sensation not only in Jorhat but across Assam.

The arrested robbers are Nirmal Gogoi (45) alias Lal, son of Monipur Gogoi of Rowriah Jamuguri, Udai Saikia (45) alias Bhai of Kunwaripukhuri Jorhat, Nabin Das (27) of Panichokuwa Napamuwa and Dibyajyoti Das (20) of Rowriah Pokamura village. Incidentally all four are from Jorhat and were picked up from different places of the state after an initial tip off that led to the arrest of Nirmal Gogoi alias Lal who was absconding after the murder of one Bimal Gogoi on 4 November 2017. Deceased Bimal Gogoi was shot at close range and police recovered a bullet of an AK-56 Rifle. However the then Officer in Charge of Jorhat Police Station Pradip Kalita ruled out the possibility of Nirmal Gogoi possessing a AK-56 rifle and informed that the murder weapon was handmade designed to fit a AK bullet. But a discreet investigation by SP Prasanta Bhuyan along with a core team finally led to the arrest and recovery of the assault rifle.

Based on the confession of Nirmal Gogoi police recovered the AK series rifle from his father in laws residence at Borpathar of district Golaghat and the 9MM pistol and the Chinese greande from Dibyajyoti Das and the .32 pistol from Borpathar Langtha village.

Talking to Inside NE, SP Prasanta Bhuyan said," Nirmal Gogoi was at large following the murder of Bimal Gogoi last year. We were keeping a watch on his movement and based on a tip off about a definite location we apprehended him from Dimapur in Nagaland. During interrogation Nirmal confessed to have hidden the AK rifle at Borpathar and other small arms with his accomplices. They had plans of robbing a businessman in Banderdewa which has now become null and void".

The recovery is being attributed by the public as one of the biggest achievement of Jorhat police in recent times
