GUWAHATI: Assam Congress has lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party's national president JP Nadda after the latter's accusation that the Congress leaders have not been on ground during the second wave of COVID-19 emergency and left like 'tourists' after being defeated in the election.
Taking a jibe at Nadda, the Congress party asked him to Google about them and find out whether they have been working or not.
"Our leaders and workers are on ground constantly. Of course, the government will not recognise our work and efforts. Mr. Nadda perhaps should Google to check whether he is right or we are," said Congress Legislature party leader Debabrata Saikia to InsideNE.
"BJP takes political reference to appoint members in existing committees. They do not appoint our people. But still, Congress workers are working like unsung heroes," Saikia opined.

Earlier, BJP chief JP Nadda had come down heavily on the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for being allegedly absent during the second wave of COVID-19.
Nadda also accused that Congress, during their 15 years of governance in Assam, reached the heights of corruption and ran the government with a motto of "no mission, but full commission". Nadda urged the newly appointed BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita to be vocal against Congress's corruption as well.
In response to that, Nazira legislator Debabrata Saikia said, "Our stand against corruption has been very clear. Nobody should escape the legal procedure. Mrs. Ajanta Neog (who left Congress last year and joined BJP) had corruption charges against her even CID summoned her for the same. Why is BJP not doing anything against it? Even Sumitra Patir has corruption charges."
Saikia added further, "If all saints are in BJP then why are they keep on including persons with corruption charges? They should have squashed them from the party. But they did not."
"I have appealed the Mineral Department of the Gauhati High Court to constitute a task force against syndicate, illegal mining, deforestation. But the Assam Government has not even complied with the Gauhati High Court's 2019 order. They are clearly patronizing," said Saikia.
BJP chief JP Nadda had taken part in BJP's Assam Pradesh Executive meeting today via video conferencing. The BJP also felicitated newly appointed state president Bhabesh Kalita at their Hengrabari, Guwahati office as well.
