GUWAHATI: Playback singer Jubin Nautiyal today took to Twitter to comment on  the recent rape and murder case of a domestic help from Assam.

In his post, Nautiyal pondered if it is not the COVID-19 that is the virus on the earth right now, but "we humans."

"Dear humanity, I was wondering if covid is the virus on earth or we are.#JusticeForSumilaRonghanpi," Nautiyal tweeted.

The student bodies, tribal bodies have been continuously demanding justice for the 12-year-old Karbi girl who was burnt alive and allegedly raped before she was killed.

They are also demanding the government to mete out capital punishment for the perpetrators of such a heinous act.

Licypriya Kangujam, a 9-year-old Indian environmental activist, demanding justice for the minor victim, urged everyone to spread the news so that it reached the entire country, as well as national and international media.

The 12-year-old was burnt alive in Nagaon district's Raha town on April 24 where she was working as a domestic servant and was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused before she was killed, resulting in pregnancy.

Prakash Borthakur, the patriarch of the family for which she worked, and his son Nayanjyoti Borthakur, were both arrested.

According to the most recent National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Assam reported 6,608 cases of crimes against children in 2019, the most of any Northeastern state in India, and the number has been rising year after year.
