Guwahati, March 25, 2019:

Bhojpuri singing sensation and Assam born Bollywood singer, Kalpana Patowary took to social media platforms to express her struggle in the field of music in Mumbai.

Kalpana Patowary shared a video on her twitter handle captioned “মুম্বাইত তিস্তা সহজ নহয ়: Mumbai struggle is not easy...SOME SURVIVES OTHERS NOT” where she grabbed a moment while performing in a show and said, “I’m a daughter of Assam, my workplace is in Uttar Pradesh and I stay in Maharashtra. Of course, music has no language but it should not be a double standard. Double standard means, though Hindi is our national language it is mostly used in Bihar and UP. I sing Bollywood songs, Hindi songs, etc. but in certain situations, I say ‘Hey Bihari, Hey UP wala’...that is called a double standard. I’ve got the chance in Bollywood using that language but that way I have not paid respect to Bihar and UP, that is nothing more than such narrow-minded thought.”

She further added, “Why will I speak against Mumbai? I’m from Barpeta of Lower Assam and reached Bollywood after a lot of struggle. Mumbai has given me a house and a studio. I respect that land and I pay tribute to that place.”
