SIVASAGAR: Kalyan Gogoi, a prominent leader of the Congress in Assam, has resigned from the Grand Old Party following disappointment over not being given a ticket to contest the ensuing polls.

He was a strong ticket aspirant from Sivasagar. He had been aspiring for the seat since 2006, but was denied every time due to intervention of Bijoy Krishna Handique and Tarun Gogoi with whom he did not have a good rapport.
It needs mention here that the party chose Subhramitra Gogoi as the candidate from the Sivasagar Constituency.
Congress on Saturday released the first list of the party candidates for 40 assembly constituencies in the first phase of three-phase Assam assembly polls.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora will contest from Gohpur seat while six sitting MLAs of the party have also got party tickets.
