As Guwahati gears up to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has appealed to the vendors in the city not to sell plastic national flags.
The appeal was made as a section of the shopkeepers was seen selling the plastic tri-colours.
Kamrup (Metro) district Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal said according to Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, one should not disrespect the national flag. The use of plastic flags is a sign of disrespect to the national flag, he said.
