GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metro) district administration has declared a dry day on the occasion of Holi, the festival of colours, on March 28 in order to maintain public order.

The district administration has issued an order that all wine shops, bars, clubs and pubs in the city will remain closed till 4 pm on Sunday.

“In exercising power conferred under Section 52(1) of Assam Excise Act, 2000, the undersigned hereby declares that all the retail ‘ON’/’OFF’/Club licenses and all the Country Spirit shops of Kamrup Metropolitan district will remain closed till 4 PM on 28th March 2021 for the preservation of Public peace in view of the Holi festival,” said the order signed by deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu.

Any breach of the order, according to the district administration, will be dealt with harshly.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has also advised people to follow COVID-19 protocol while celebrating Holi. The ASDMA in its advisory has also suggested face masks, social distancing etc during the festival revelry in view of the latest rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
