The Karbi Students Association (KSA), along with Dimasa Students Union (DSU) vehemently condemned the move by SEBA, as per its notifications, which had declared that question papers be prepared from the chapter "Baichitramoy Asom" for classes 9 and 10, in which Karbi and Dimasa are excluded.
Karbi and Dimasa said the only tribe who has its interrelation with the history of Assam from then and now, said DSU president Dhiraj Diphusa.
He further added that Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, renowned artist, poet, writer, had referred to the Karbis as the Columbus of Assam or 'Discoverer of Assam'. So, we would like to remind SEBA and Education minister Shiddarta Bhattacharya with simple examples that the words "Kaziranga" was derived from the Karbi words Kajir-Arong which means " The village of Kajir".
He said that these are some of the examples how the Karbis are entrenched in the history of Assam. KSA General Secretary Thangsing Timing said: "So, the Karbi Students Association along Dimasa Student Union strongly urged the Education minister to review this decision and also urge CEM/EM to interfere in the matter on the state government’s behalf."
The student leaders jointly urged the Education Minister to re-think the issue.
