DIPHU: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang today released a sum of Rupees one lakh to the bring back the mortal remains of a Karbi girl who was charred to death in Raha town where she was working as a domestic servant.
After the girl's demise, her family told media that she wasn't allowed to return home for the past four years.
Executive Member Rupsing Teron today visited the grieving family of the late Somali Ronghangpi.
Teron said he was saddened to hear about the death of the girl and demanded that a proper investigation be carried out. He also requested the Assam Government to release an ex gratia amount for the mourning family.
The victim hailed from Sar Kro Kudam Ronghang village in West Karbi Anglong and had been staying and working as a domestic servant in the house of Prakash Borthakur.
The Karbi Students Association (KSA) has demanded a high-level time bound Inquiry into the alleged murder of the girl.
An FIR has been lodged at Raha police station under the relevant sections of the law.
The victim's body has been taken for post-mortem.
Assam’s Director General of Police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta responding to a call for justice wrote: “As per her employer, the girl committed suicide. However, after initial inspection, it is suspected that she was murdered and then burnt. She was also underage to be working as a domestic help. Therefore, two accused were taken into custody immediately. Investigation is on.”
Following suit, Nagaon police took to social media to confirm that a track investigation is going on under supervision of senior officers. Two suspected accused have already been arrested.
