Members of the Karbi Students Association (KSA) blockaded the NH-36 for two hours at Dillai along Manja and Dimapur road here on Tuesday in protest against the dilapidated road conditions of National Highways 36 and 39, m.
Speaking to media persons here, KSA General Secretary Thangsing Timung said, "the National Highway authority of India has failed to construct NH-36 and 39, the road condition is the absolute worst where we can plant paddy field, rear fishes. The road condition has become swampy death and many vehicles get stuck on the middle of the road due to swampy conditions."
Timung further said, "today we have demonstrated planting of paddy field on the road, and one day National Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari will have to harvest it. Due to worsening road condition of NH-36 and 39m many peoples have lost their lives in accidents."
He also reiterated that if the Government will not take the responsibility for construction of road, they we will blockage NH-36 and 39.
During the demonstration, members of KSA has planted paddy and also displayed demonstration on fishing.
Mention can be made, various social and students organisations of Karbi Anglong had submitted numerous memorandums to the higher authorities but till today, the authorities have paid no heed for the construction of the said Highways.
