GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Monday paid tribute to martyrs of the Kargil war on the occasion of the 22nd Kargil Vijay Divas at the Dighalipukhuri War Memorial in Guwahati.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, "I paid my heartfelt tribute to the braveheart martyrs who went beyond the call of duty to fight for integrity & sovereignty of the nation.

The Chief Minister paid tribute to Captain Jintu Gogoi who was martyred in the 1999 war. He also met with the parents of the late Gogoi. Jintu Gogoi who hailed from Golaghat district of Assam, was awarded Vir Chakra, posthumously on August 15, 1999 for his bravery.
Speaking to the media, Thogiram Gogoi, father of Jintu Gogoi said, "It's a proud day for us. For the first time in the last 22 years, we have been invited to Guwahati on the occasion. Also the Chief Minister himself was present and paid tribute.
"I lost one son, but I got many as well. It's great to see the people and their support towards us", he added.
