The Member Secretary of the State Level Advisory Committee, Assam, Lakhya Konwar announced that the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 will be launched on December 29.
The much-awaited youth games will be inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will also be present in the inaugural ceremony.
Konwar, who is also the General Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association said that a torch relay programme will be held in all the 33 districts of Assam. He also informed that all the institutes affiliated to the Assam Olympic Association will also be a part of the torch relay programme of Khelo India.
Lakhya Konwar announced that the Chief Minister’s Awards ceremony will also be held on the same day. “Assam government’s Sports and Youth Welfare department has been organizing a Sports Awards programme for the past three years - Chief Minister’s Sports Award and this Sports Award will be organised on December 29,” he said.

This time the Sports Awards will be dedicated to the nine sportspersons who have brought laurels to Assam by clinching nine medals in the South Asian Games 2019 held in Nepal.
On December 29, the Assam CM will be issuing the award money of Rs. 10 lakh, 5 lakh and 3 lakh to the Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists respectively. The sportspersons who will be awarded with the amount are Shiv Thapa, Hasina Begum, Manas Jyoti Sangmai, Jayanta Talukdar, Binit Rai and Hali Charan Narzary.
