Serfanguri, June 9, 2019:

In a successful counter insurgency operation in Serfanguri in Assam, the Panbari based unit of the Red Horns Division and Assam Police in a joint operation apprehended a cadre belonging to the Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) militant outfit from Serfanguri at Kokrajhar district in Assam.

The joint team recovered one 9 mm Pistol (with magazine) and one smartphone in the possession of the KLO cadre.

The cadre has been identified as Bikash Roy, who hails from Ramfalbil in Kokrajhar district. The cadre has been handed over to Serfanguri Police Station for further investigation.

It may be mentioned that the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation is a militant organisation based in Northeast India whose objective is to carve out a separate Kamtapur nation from India. The proposed state is to comprise six districts in West Bengal and four contiguous districts of Assam.

The KLO was formed to address problems of the Koch Rajbongshi people such as large-scale unemployment, land alienation, perceived neglect of Kamtapuri language, identity, and grievances of economic deprivation
