Demanding land rights and patta for the indigenous people of the state, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) took out a massive protest in Guwahati today.
KMSS general secretary, Dhaijya Konwar speaking on the issue said, “We have come out to protest because the landless people in Guwahati have not been given land pattas and rights despite several appeals to the government. Our indigenous people in Assam are landless but the government is not taking any initiatives to give them land pattas.”
He informed that since 2011 at least 5 people were martyred demanding land patta but no initiative is seen from the government. “Despite several discussions with the government, the people of the government did not give them any land or any step to give them a proper settlement”, he said.
Dhaijya further stated that the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbanada Sonowal is in the “pockets” of the rich.
Speaking on the same lines, KMSS president Raju Bora said that the BJP as claimed to be for the people is actually for the rich.
“This government does not think for the poor people but is actually under the control of the rich people. This is why they are busy giving hectares of land to industrialists but could not give patta to the landless indigenous people in Guwahati”, he added.
