The KMSS chief said, “I am grateful for the people of Assam for continuing their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. I urge the people to continue their battle against the contentious Act.”

Meanwhile, Akhil’s supporters who gathered outside the NIA court greeted him with Assamese 'Gamusa' and staged out protest demanding unconditional release of the KMSS firebrand. They chanted slogans like “Police Prasashan Haye Haye”, “Release Akhil Gogoi”, “BJP Haye Haye”, etc.

It may be mentioned here that Akhil Gogoi was arrested by the NIA on December 16 from Jorhat district under the Unlawful Assembly Protection Act and on December 26, he was sent to Guwahati Central Jail of Assam as NIA failed to produce any evidence of Gogoi’s involvement with Maoists as the former as alleged.
