Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Thursday categorically criticized the formation of a Cabinet Committee for implementing the Clauses of the Assam Accord.
The KMSS leader stated, “The action of the government on the accord after 35 year is a huge insult to the Assamese people. The committee was formed years back and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was a member of the committee. This controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is nothing more than a conspiracy to spoil the years’ long Assam agitation.”
It may be mentioned that the Cabinet committee on Wednesday has announced plans to implement the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord that provides appropriate constitutional, political reservation, legislative and administrative safeguards to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.
