15 July 2018:
A “mass protest”, demanding the shutdown of Raha toll gate, will be staged at the site on July 22 by peasants’ body Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).
Disclosing this to reporters on Sunday, KMSS leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi said the construction of the road at the site of the toll gate was yet to be completed. He alleged that as the drains were not planned properly, it caused several accidents in the area.
“I don’t even have the right to go to my hometown without paying the tax. The government has done nothing for the people of Assam but looted them,” Gogoi alleged. He argued: “How can an incomplete road have a toll gate?”
On the ongoing ban on imported fish by the state government, Gogoi alleged that Minister Pijush Hazarika had his own motives behind the enforcement of the ban. He also alleged that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma besides Hazarika did nothing for the state but looted people.
