KOKRAJHAR: L.R. Bishnoi, Assam Police Special DGP, has briefed media on the Kokrajhar encounter where three accused in a bank robbery were gunned down by police in the wee hours of Sunday.
The robbers were suspected to have planned to rob the Allahabad Bank in Kokrajhar’s Bhotgaon.
"Police shootout in retaliation and went on for 30 minutes. When it was over we found three people injured and we rushed them to RNB Civil Hospital but they succumbed to their injury later on," said Bishnoi.
Bishnoi added further, "After area search several dacoity equipments like 7.65 mm pistols, the six rounds of bullets that they have fired, magazine pistols, rubber pipes, mobile phones, gas cutters, 2 pistols along with Oxygen and LPG Cylinders were recovered."

The robbers were identified as Sirajuddola Sheikh from Mankachar, Aminul Sheikh and Manirul Sheikh from Goalpara.
The operation took place at around 2:30 am on Sunday.
"I want to appeal all the dacoits and their associates in the BTR area today to leave this road of crimes and if they want to reform themselves then we will help them. But if they continue to do this then police will be bound to take stern action against them," Bishnoi expressed.
With this fresh encounter, the total number of accused shot dead by the Assam Police since May 10 has risen to 20.
On the other hand, 30 more have sustained bullet injuries during the same time span.
