Assam: Kokrajhar Engineering College accused of flouting COVID-19 norms, authority reluctant to clarify

GUWAHATI: The Bineswar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar has instructed students of all the semesters to attend physical classes from September 6 onwards allegedly flouting standard operating procedure (SOPs) issued by the state government recently.

The Assam Government on September 1st issued a fresh set of COVID-19 related SOPs introducing a few more relaxations to the ongoing restrictions including permission for physical classes for students of the postgraduate, graduate, higher secondary final year only. Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta has instructed all the institution heads to prepare for the reopening of institutions in three days and resume physical classes from Monday onwards with students who have administered at least one dose of the vaccines.

The notice issued by the BBEC undersigned by Principal Dr. Kamal Kumar Brahma has instructed all the semesters to attend physical classes from Monday.

"We tried to discuss this with our professors and HoDs. They have assured us to give it a thought though said if the still college decides to call students then we have to come. But the next day we directly received the notice issued without any discussion as promised," said a BBEC student talking to InsideNE on the condition of anonymity.

InsideNE though tried to contact Principal Kamal Kumar Brahma to know their part of the story, he hung up the call saying he was busy at that time near some jungle site and said he would talk tomorrow.

InsideNE also approached another faculty member from the college and he said to be busy during that time as well.

The students as well as their parents are still in dilemma on this notification issued by the college authority and none have received any clarification either on the matter from the authorities.
