Kokrajhar Red Horns Division’s Ravinder Singh bags bronze at European Kickboxing Championship

Guwahati, March 19, 2019:

Sepoy Ravinder Singh of Red Horns Division of Kokrajhar has bagged the bronze medal in K1 Rules (81 kg weight category) in World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) European Cup "Serbia Open" held at Belgrade, Serbia from 15th to 17th March 2019.

After winning his initial bouts Sepoy Ravinder defeated Boudemarene Rabah of Algeria by a score of 5-2 in quarterfinals but lost to Smilic Jovan of Serbia (3-5) in the semi-finals who later won the gold medal. Sepoy Ravinder has now been selected for Nepal Open Kickboxing Championship, 2019 which is scheduled to be held at Kathmandu from 24-28 April 2019.

The International Olympic Committee recognized “Serbia Open” European WAKO Cup is a tournament with participation of kickboxers from Europe. From last year, the teams from other continents also started participating in the event.

Ravinder is a serving Indian Army personnel and was selected for Indian Army Boxing Team.  Earlier, he had bagged silver medal in the WAKO India Senior National Kickboxing Championship 2018 organized by Kickboxing Association of West Bengal.

Ravinder was trained at Kick Boxing Training Camp at Faridabad, Haryana from February 10, 2019, to March 10, 2019, under the auspices of ‘WAKO India’, member of ‘World Association of Kickboxing Organizations’.

The sport of kickboxing was recently recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
