Kokrajhar woman allegedly murdered by husband and his family for not paying Dowry

Kokrajhar, April 17, 2019:

A seven-months pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law because their demands of dowry were not met. It has been claimed that the trio harassed her both mentally and physically which led to her death.

The incident reported from Kokrajhar district’s Fakiragram’s Khasibari. The woman, Safinur Begum (21), who originally hails from Nawarbhita village under Dotma Police Station, got married to Noor Amin (28) a resident of Khasibari. As per sources, the Amin’s family started demanding dowry of Rs. 50,000 and a motorbike a few months after marriage. She was allegedly abused time and again by her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law.

Yesterday, Safinur Begum’s corpse was discovered dangling from a noose. Safinur Begum’s father and her brother have alleged that she was murdered because the dowry was not paid. Authorities have said that a conclusion can only be reached once the postmortem of the dead body is completed.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s husband, Noor Amin, has been apprehended by authorities. Meanwhile, his mother and brother, who are co-accused in the case, have reportedly fled the area.
