Kokrajhar, July 28, 2019:

Youths from the Kokrajhar district of Assam have been united by an unusual platform in raising funds for those affected by the devastating floods in the State: social media.

The efforts are being co-ordinated by social media superstar Alfred Basumatary, who commands a subscriber base of over 1.7 lakh on the video sharing platform, Youtube.

One of the star's latest videos is a poignant one in which the Youtuber is seen taking part in the relief operations.

At one point, Alfred points out a group of Kokrajhar youths and says: "These are the youths from Kokrajhar, they came united, and worked together, and contributed, they have collected some clothes, and through social media like WhatsApp and Facebook, they also collected some donations. They  They got response from Maharashtra, like Mumbai and Pune, and also Kerala, and also Jharkhand, and Jammu & Kashmir."

The youths brought rations and vegetables and distributed those in three areas, especially in the BTC areas. The youths could be seen working hard and collecting goods, and distributing those to the flood affected people of the State.

The Youtuber also accompanied the Kokrajhar youths and despite incessant rains, they distributed relief materials to many people.

In the community halls, the people could be seen living in clustered conditions due to the lack of space. Shortage of food and medical facilities is what makes the lives of these people in the relief centres so difficult. Moreover, although we seldom spare a thought about clothes in these times if 'aplenty', the plight of the flood victims, who only have the clothes they are wearing as their worldly clothing possessions, cannot be ignored.
