Amid continuing disturbances across the length and width of the nation against the amendment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, a leader of the organization Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) was beaten black and blue by a mob in Tinsukia district on February 28.
The youth, who has been identified as Lahowal Krishak Mukti leader Dhruba Dutta, had allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 1 lakh from businessman Safi Alam Khan, due to which he was brutally assaulted by a frenzied mob.

Dutta's thrashing by the mob has been recorded on video and in the footage, it can be seen that the KMSS leader was brutally assaulted and his shirt was removed from his body.
Meanwhile, a KMSS leader, Budhkan Baruah has alleged that Dhruba might not be a fulltime member of the of the organization and has not participated in the anti-CAA andolan that raged across the . Disowning Dutta, Baruah further stated that these might be concerted attempts to destroy the reputation of the peasant organization.

The incident has been reported at a time when the KMSS' primary leaders -- Akhil Gogoi and Dhairjya Konwar -- have been put behind bars for alleged links to "maoist" rebels.
The imprisonment of Gogoi and the other leaders has been frowned upon by students across the country and there is a growing clamour for the release of Gogoi and the other political prisoners. Recently, the demand to release Gogoi reached the grounds of the renowned Eiffel Tower in Paris where supporters unfurled a banner demanding the firebrand KMSS leader's release.
