Landlord attempts to Murder 'Witch' Tenant

Guwahati, 16th December, 2018:

In a sensational incident in Dakshingoan area of Guwahati, a landlord Brajen Rabha attempted to kill a woman living in his property, after branding her a witch. According to reports, Rabha was employed under Assam Police.

The woman, who had been living with her 80 year old father alleged that the accused attempted to kill her with a machete. Originally hailing from Jorhat, the woman filed an FIR against Brajen Rabha in the nearby police station.

It should be noted that that in earlier this year in July, President Ram Nath Kovind had approved the Assam Witch Hunting Bill (2015), converting it to an Act. It imposes imprisonment of up to seven years, along with a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh, for branding someone a witch.
