KOKRAJHAR: Laurence Islary, former General Secretary of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and one of signatories of the BTR accord, along with 2,000 others, today joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) at a grand joining ceremony held at Kangklabada in Kokrajhar.

 

To extend humanity, welfare, and services in the region is the reason behind his joining the UPPL party, Islary said, addressing a gathering.

 

Islary was associated with ABSU since 2001 and held several positions in the student’s union till he was relieved from the ABSU last.

 

The newly joined members were welcomed and felicitated by the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief and party president CEM Pramod Boro.

"As people from all sections of society want healthy development, illegal arms must be rooted out at any costs in BTR areas," Boro said.

 

Since its formation, the UPPL led coalition government in BTR has been working dedicatedly to uplift and accordingly distributed land pattas, teacher appointments in four districts by BTC government," he added.

 

Attacking the previous Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) led BTC administration Boro said that in their last 17 years of rule it has so far failed to work for the peoples. BPF has no agenda for work of people's welfare and development, he added.

 

Former ABSU speaker Phanin Boro, ex BLT leader Rupam Kumar Brahma, ex MLA Karmeswar Brahma are the other prominent personalities who joined the UPPL today.
