Guwahati, January 9, 2019:

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, lashing out at the 'left' forces at the Jawarlal Nehru University (JNU) fomenting an atmosphere of "intolerance" towards the BJP, rued that the 'left' ideology has transformed the University into an 'anarchic' institution.

Addressing the media here today, Biswa Sarma said, "Wherever leftist professors are there, left faculties are there, they have created that people who cannot subscribe to their ideology cannot come inside those campuses."

You take up an institute which is basically right-to-centre, lamenting that the atmosphere in JNU is not conducive for BJP leaders to address the students. "If I go to JNU, they will shout slogans, but if same Sitaram Yechury will come to another institution not known for any ideological orientation, nobody will be shouted. Can you give me a name when a BJP leader has gone to JNU and not been shouted?", lamented the Minister.

"JNU is practicing most intolerance", he said, adding "left-ideologically oriented people have turned turned their campus into some sort of anarchy."

It may be mentioned that the Minister's comments come in the wake of the brutal attacks on JNU students and faculty by masked goons, suspected to be affiliated to the RSS-ABVP, the ideological brethren of Sarma's BJP party.

It may be mentioned here that violence swept the JNU campus on Sunday as masked goons barged into the university premises and thrashed both students and teachers with wooden sticks and rods. Hostel rooms and lobbies were vandalized, and many vehicles standing on the roadside were also vandalized.

Claiming that the violence in JNU is a “fabricated incident” cooked up by its Left affiliated students’ union, West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday said a probe is needed to find out if JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh was really injured or faked it by using paints on her face.
