KOKRAJHAR: Ahead of the second phase of assembly election in Assam, security forces last night recovered a huge cache of sophisticated arms and ammunition from Ripu Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district.
A team led by Superintendent of Police (SP), Kokrajhar Rakesh Raushan, recovered three AK-56 rifles, 157 rounds of AK ammunition, eight blankets, 150 kg ration provision, medicines, bags and other assorted items concealed under the ground.
The security forces had to walk nearly 20kms through difficult terrain to reach the spot.
The Assam Police under the leadership of Inspector General Police (BTAD) LR Bishnoi have intensified search operation in the region to ensure a violence-free election.
The security forces have also undertaken route marches and executed foot patrolling to evaporate fear from the minds of people.

Kokrajhar district is among the six districts of Assam having both inter-state and international border.
The first phase of polls in Assam was held on March 27 while the second and third phase will be held on April 1 and April 6 respectively. Counting of votes will take place on May 2.
