KALAIGAON: Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched into a fresh tirade against his bete noire Badruddin Ajmal at Lower Assam's Kalaigaon where he was campaigning for the BJP candidate

At one point during his speech, Biswa Sarma claimed that Ajmal holds the 'lock and key' to all the constituents of the Mahajath.

The 'lock and key' is the election symbol of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), a political party founded by perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal in 2005.

"In this election -- on one hand we are there, and on the other, there is Ajmal. If we don't win, Ajmal will win the election," Biswa Sarma added, urging the people to campaign vehemently in the coming few days to script a saffron party win.

"Hagrama (Mohilary) is fake, Congress is fake, the only one that remains is Ajmal. So let me ask you, will we let Ajmal run the country? Will we let Congress run the country? Of course, we won't."

The Minister also claimed that voting for Mahajath candidate Durga Das Boro is akin to voting for the AIUDF supremo Ajmal.

Giving the rationale behind this statement, Biswa Sarma stated: "You have the Congress, Hagrama, and Ajmal. All three have now banded together. Now, voting for Durga Das Boro and Ajmal is the same thing. On the other hand, voting for Madhur Deka and Ajmal is the same thing."

Kalaigaon seat is part of the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency, which falls in the Lower Assam region of Assam.

In the 2016 Assembly elections Maheswar Baro of BOPF won from this seat beating Nathu Ram Boro of AIUDF by a margin of 17,621 votes.

In the 2011 Assembly elections Mukunda Ram Choudhury of AGP won from this this constituency defeating Maheswar Baro of BOPF by a margin of 2,808 votes.
