GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly and Congress MLA Debabrata Saikia has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party Government over its 'contradictory' stand on 'Sab ka Saath, Sabka ka Vikas' motto and also accused them of showing 'discriminatory behaviour' for allocating relief funds only for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliated schools.

Recently, The Students' Federation on India (SFI) has accused the Assam chief minister's office of 'illegally' offering financial aid of Rs. 5,000 to teachers of RSS-affiliated Vidya Bharati schools, known as Shankardev Shishu Niketan in the state, from CM Relief Fund.

"The government which preaches about 'Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikas' and should not be discriminating while delivering duties of a ruler, it felt like they have shown some discriminatory behaviours," said LoP Debabrata Saikia in a letter to CM.

Saikia added, "At a time when century-old government schools with weak infrastructure are teaching students, to what extent it was fair to allocate government funds to only Shankardev Shishu Niketan under UNITED FUND for the construction of school buildings, we should think.

Saikia in his letter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also pointed out that despite being advised by the State Innovation And Transformation Aayog, Assam (SITA) and high-level committee constituted to revive the state economy to adopt a few schemes and to provide financial assistance to small businesspersons, artists, daily wagers, etc on account of prevailing COVID-19 situation and to revive the hard-hit economy due to it, no proper action has been taken by the government so far due to which today people are facing financial crisis in the state.

"Teachers of non-provincialized schools, as well as the other sections of people who have faced a financial crisis due to COVID-19, should be facilitated with the same type of financial aid as the teachers of Shankardev Shishu Niketan. I hope you will announce some special beneficiary schemes for our teachers to felicitate them tomorrow itself on the occasion of Teacher's Day," Saikia demanded.
